A huge congratulations to Darlene Keene and Dominic Tolentino, students from North Shore Community College, who were named to the 2026 Phi Theta Kappa All-Massachusetts Academic Team for their outstanding academic achievement and exemplary service. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society of two-year colleges, promoting the academic integrity and scholarship of associate degree programs. Each year, the Massachusetts Association of Community Colleges brings together the honorees from across the Commonwealth. We were proud to recognize their hard work and academic commitment during a celebration at the State House.
Today in the Senate, I was proud to join with my colleagues in voting for the passage of the PROTECT Act, which will protect all residents from direct action by federal law enforcement that violates individual protections under the United States Constitution. This legislation prohibits warrantless civil immigration arrests in sensitive locations such as schools, childcare centers, hospitals, state courthouses, and houses of worship, ensuring residents can attend essential services without fear. It also limits local involvement in civil immigration enforcement, protects victims and witnesses of crime, and supports families facing immigration detention. Thank you to my Senate colleagues, stakeholders, and community advocates who worked tirelessly on this important legislation.
It was great to chat with North Shore members of the Mass Senior Action Council during the annual Elder Adult Lobby Day at the State House yesterday. I'm proud to work with them on a variety of issues including affordable transit, lowering the costs of healthcare, and housing affordability. Thank you for your advocacy!
The rehabilitation of the Lynn Armory into supportive housing for our veterans is part of our shared goal to build affordable housing opportunities for some of our most vulnerable residents. I was proud to join with Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities Secretary Juana Matias, Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services Secretary Eric Goralnick, Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development, Mayor Jared Nicholson, and state and local officials to celebrate that the Lynn Armory project is the recipient of $5.9 million in state and federal low income housing tax credits. With this funding, we will create 52 units of supportive housing for veterans, including community space and on-site services.
REMINDER: On Thursday at 5:30PM, the Lynn Community Open House for the Lynnway project will be held at the Lynn Public Schools Welcome Center. There will be additional open house events held throughout the month of May.![]()
